EXPORT SERIES - PRINCIPLES FOR HOUSING COMMUNITIES

1. Design Principles

The Fairweather Homes Export Series are designed around the specifics of the "places" in which they are to be erected.

Close attention to the following influences is essential:

  • Sociological, cultural and economic influences
  • Site - environmental and climatic influences
  • Availability of local materials and human resources
  • Transportation options and constraints
  • long term benefits of skills training, technology transfer and implementation of maintenance services.

2. Cost and Quality Principles

Fairweather Homes adopt simple and logical principles for managing cost and quality:
  • Maximise use of local products and materials
  • Minimise potential damage/loss of exported materials
    • ship materials in containers
  • Minimise volume of containerised exported materials
    • supply pre-cut timber frames in "stick" form for assembly on site
  • Assign supervisors and skill trainers experienced with Fairweather Homes construction materials and systems
  • Maximise community workforce training and skill development in assembly, erection and other housing trades
  • Train community members to manage, coordinate and supervise ongoing housing development and maintenance.
